We won!!!!!
.Once again we filled the city council chamber and the meeting began. First we heard from the council members and as the first one began to speak our hopes began to sink. He was totally for a BSL (pit bulls). He spoke for about 10 minutes on all the reasons why this wonderful breed should be banned from the city. When the next member started to speak we began to see light at the end of the tunnel. He politely told the previous speaker he appreciated his comments...BUT a BSL would not solve the problem. He then brought out the
Animal Control statistics reports from 1996-2000 and according to that the pit bull was running even with Collies, Chows, Shepherds, Dobermans and most other breeds 50lbs and over. In short, there is not a pit bull problem there is an owner problem.
From there on the rest of the council save one agreed and after all of our input (breeders, vets., doctors, and even the most recent pit bull bite victim) it was decided 7-2 in our favor NOT to vote in a BSL. Instead there will be strict laws for irresponsible ownership and stiff fines for offenders.
We won!!!!!
