B>Thanks to Donna Malone dated 3/8/99

The following bill was a part of a " city packet" and these types of bills are always on the fast track and only MASSIVE protests from the public i.e., Dog Fancy in this case can stop them. Any assistance you can give to help mount a massive protest is appreciated. Donna Malone, President, Responsible Animal Owners of Tennessee, Inc.

*****IF YOU ARE THE MEMBER OF A TENNESSEE CLUB, PLEASE CONTACT THE OTHER MEMBERS OF YOUR CLUB AND ENCOURAGE THEM TO CONTACT GOVERNOR IMMEDIATELY!!!

Please use the following SUBJECT: VETO HB 0276.

the House of Representatives voted to enact HB 0276 and SB 0187, clearing this bill to become law as it had already passed the Senate. It is a terrible bill which, if it becomes law, will have serious negative consequences for animal owners in Tennessee.

There is ONE avenue of appeal left to us and that is to the Governor. Please take the time to IMMEDIATELY call, write or fax the Governor concerning this bill. Please encourage EVERYONE you know, dog owner or not, to do the same NOW!

The contact information for the Governor is:

REASONS THE GOVERNOR SHOULD REFUSE TO SIGN THIS BILL INTO LAW!

POINTS TO MAKE:
    1. It clears the way to require the destruction of ANY dog that causes serious injury or death to humans OR OTHER ANIMALS. This includes birds, squirrels, or any other animal on or off an owner's property.

    2. The bill passed with only 58 votes.

    3. There are sufficient laws already on the books to deal with dangerous dogs and this additional broad expansion of power is unnecessary and unwarranted.

    4. It clears the way for breed specific legislation.
