The first Breed Specific Le gislation is nearing for dogs in Brazil. The following breeds are specifically named as dangerous :

American Staffordshire Terrier
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Pitbull Terrier
Tosu Inu
Dogo Argentino
Bull Terrier
Rottweiler.

UPDATE APRIL 8, 1999....The Brazilian folks need as much help as possible....PLEASE if you have any additional Information let me know so we can fight this measure or at least propose other solutions to their problem of loose dogs...jan

HERE IS WHAT THEY ARE PROPOSING:

Law Project 37/99
The legislative assembly of the State of Minas Gerais declares:
Article I: The owners of the dog breeds, rottweiler, fila and pitbulls must observe the following laws:

1. Register the dog with complete information:
name of owner
address of owner
the name and age of the dogs
2. Maintain the animal in a kennel
Article II: The dog is prohibited to enter public places in the state.
Article III: It's prohibited in the state to adopt and procreate this breed. When the dog is of age to reproduce he must be fixed.
Article V: Whoever doesn't obey these laws will have the following penalties:

The first incident a warning.
The second, 500 in Brazilian money.
The third, 1000 in Brazilian money.

Article IV: The Executive Power regulate the law at the time they designate 30 days from publication.
Article VI: It is this projects intention to complete the mission on put of the authority, competent to make the decisions, concerning the attacks of the dogs on men, women, and children. Many journalists have put notices concerning attacks that have in the most part led to death. Also, that most owners send their dogs to trainers who teach the dogs to attack. They make the dogs very vicious so they will attack robbers. However, the dogs attack without warning.
