Jennings óCity Council passed a measure 12-18-06 regulating ownership of
dogs considered pit bulls, including Staffordshire bull terriers, American Staffordshires, American pit bulls and others with the appearance and
characteristics of the breed.
The bill was in response to residents' complaints, officials said.
Pit bulls in Jennings must now be registered, wear bright orange collars
and large metal identification tags.
Owners also must obtain $100,000 insurance policies. Pit bulls that scratch
or bite humans will be quarantined for 10 days, and any that make unprovoked,
severe or fatal attacks will be humanely destroyed. Also, only people 18 or
older can walk a pit bull in Jennings.
