MICRO-ORGANISMS . . on the loose? I have heart disease....What does that have to do with our Rott N Kids you ask? Well, my ardiologist has been VERY emphatic about how important it is for me to ALWAYS take antibiotics 2 weeks prior to any dental work. It seems that there is a heavy concentration of various microorganisms that are in our mouths and these ‘critters’ are released during dental work. Once released they will often migrate to a vulnerable area in the body....for me it might be my heart. SO What about dental work on our Rottweilers? Is this some-thing that we should be considering before we say, "Oh..while you are at it, will you take care his or her teeth too." Should our Veterinarians be concerned with working on our dogs teeth at the same time they are performing other major surgeries such as a tri-pelvic osteotomy or a total hip replacement (which both are becoming all too common and necessary in our breed)? AND If this is a valid concern... What about when one of our Rott N Ones have a surgical procedure that involves possible microorganisms from other parts of the body? Some spays may cause physical movement of the bowel...would this make concerns about dental work during a spay moot? Just some interesting thoughts that I would like to share, maybe you can ask your Veterinarian about all of this....I'd like to know the answer....if there is one.
