ANGELS ARE NOT ONLY MIRACLE WORKERS BUT THEY COME IN ALL SORTS OF PACKAGING!! (can you pick out the REAL angel in the following letter?) Dear Jan, Thank you for sendingme the Rott N Chatter so promptly. Encolsed you will find the story (REAL unfortunately: of....Karma, Simba and me......) September 21st, 1994, is a day forever burned into my heart and memory. That was the day I had to make the decision to put my 12 year old female Rott (Karma) down due to very progressive bone cancer. The vet came to our home and I let her go on to the Rainbow Bridge to wait forme. Sometimes we must love someone ENOUGH to ‘let them go’. I had many people adviseme to immediately get another dog. My standard response was, “I just can NOT go through the pain of separation from another Rottweiler.” In april of 1995 I placed an ad in the newspaper to sell some computer software. One of the calls were from a lady who raised Rottweilers. She was hoping I would tradeher my equipment for a Rottweiler puppy. I told her NO WAY.... my wound is still way too fresh to take on another dog. Quite frankly, I didn’t know ifI could love another dog after my beautiful Karma. The next call I received was from a lady named Janice White who does volunteer work at T.A.P.S. (a humane society in Pekin, Illinois). Janet specializes in rescuing dogs that have been mistreated and abused. She told me about a little puppy that had been found in a gargage can (along with some other dogs) who desperately needed a good home. The only dog salvageable was this little puppy that was totally bald from mange, scabies and general very poor condition. The other dogs had to be put down due totheir unbelievable poor condition. A man had been stealing dogs from surrounding towns and taking them to a research lab in St. Louis and selling the dogs for $25.00 a piece. Janet told me the police FINALLY had enough evidence to arrest the person. When Janet arrived on the scene and saw the living conditions these poor animals were forced to live in all she could do was cry. The first recommendation from the vet on the scene was to distroy ALL the dogs. Janet intervened and took the little, 6 lb. appx. 6 week old bald pupy home with her and treated the puppy for scabies and mange at home. Her treatment for the scabies was to put the puppy in a training crate, slats of boars under the crate and on top of a small childs plastic swimming pool filled with bleach water. This way when the scabies jumped off they landed in the pool of bleach water and immediately died. Very inventice thinking from Janet, I think!! Well, after the puppy grew its hair back, BEHOLD a beautiful little male Rottweiler. Janet asked me (AFTER telling me this horror story;) if I would just take a “LOOK” at this puppy. I could NOT say no to a little puppy that had survived HELL. In April, I becuase the owner of a beautiful little male Rottweiler. He was extremely hyper due to all of his kennel time and no contact with humans. Simba was the perfect name for him due to the courage his little heart has. (Yes, I named him after the Lion King movie.) Simba how weighs 85lbs at 5 1/2 months. He is a beautiful, loving companion. I have a trainer that comes every week to train ME to train Simba. Thankfully, there was no permanent damage to his psyche other than when he eats, he attacks his food bowl like someone is going to take it away from him. This is due to all the starvation he encountered as a young puppy. What I have done is to let enough pain of separation from Karma go to allow the love of Simba in my heart. I am so thankful there are people like Janice White who love animals enough to go that extra mile that some animals need. The world is a better place with Janice White and people like her in it. I DO believe in Miracles. I have a living Miracle sitting at my feet now and then licking my foot as I type this letter.
